Star Scout

Last night my boy made the rank of Star Scout! I cannot say enough good things about Boy Scouts.  I am not a hunting, fishing, camping, build a mall in the middle of the forest kind of girl....so to have men who will teach these skills (well, not the mall in the middle of forest) but other skills I am very appreciative of.  Plus the fact they teach leadership and RESPECT which honestly today (and I know I sound like I'm 80) is what is severely MISSING in todays society! People are soo CRANKY it seems eh?

So here is a picture of him getting into the minivan telling me the good news.  I knew it must be good news with him running to the van!

He's showing me three of the four merit badges he earned at camp a couple of weeks ago~

My hubby started the tradition of this particular ridiculously frozen yogurt shop after each new rank...but I guess we really got off pretty easy.

Does it make me crazy and sound like I'm 80 that that cost five dollars?? Seriously??? I think I'm in the wrong business! Anyway, it thrilled his little soul! Now he works on Life Rank and then it will be Eagle! Lots of work to be done between now and then!

Have a GREAT day!

Redo of Bedroom 1

The room projects started out to be a switching of rooms and now...that has all changed...but since I had already sold my son's captains beds...it left us in a bit of a pinch...shall we say!

So, after I painted the walls a beautiful french gray from Behr paint and the trim white which my trim is quite thick as you can see...AND I had three huge doors to paint white as well.

We were able to find a loft bed on Craiglist that was local and put together last night.  I LOVE the way it turned out....he has so much more room now.  We still need to go through some toys etc and let some things go but we are def getting there.  The pics were taken at night...and I might have to take more.  I have two more rooms to overhaul but this one is finally done!

I need to buy a desk chair but a GREAT place to do our school now!
The black dresser used to belong to my Grandmother it was a red wood color I painted black and spray painted the knobs silver.  Turned out very awesome I think!
The only money spent in this room is the money for the bed, a new basket for his xbox games and controllers and paint...everything else we were able to use...

Here are some more close up pics!

The storage files that you see contain all homeschool curriculm by subject
Bought this basket at Home Goods...I was sooo sick of all controls being EVERYWHERE!
This wall made me sad...all his Upward pics that he's too big for, his first plane ride, pics of when my husband adopted him....I call it the "cry wall" If you see tags on his dresser those are labels of what goes into what drawer...because he's 12 and well....he's twelve!
My son loves hats....this was the storage we chose two years ago and it still works! Don't mind the walking sticks that seem to be multiplying year by year!
Game area...pillows from TJ Maxx forever ago...for his friends to lounge on while they play games...will probably have to get some more now but for now it will do!

Have a GREAT day!

For those that know me well know that I'm NOT a "camping girl".  I was brought up camping, and its not that I don't know how...its just I appreciate the finer things like room service and beaches....running water and modern toilets...showers that I don't have to time myself...you know...luxury:)

However, my kids do love it...so I went with my parents for a couple of days...and we had ourselves some fun:)

I forgot someones swimsuit and she was FILTHY after getting out of the lake ewwww!

Before the lake
The bike got dragged while traveling fell off the bike rack oops!

Sidewalk chalk is the BEST!
Riding her bike all over the place!
She fell off the bike...not good! Almost went into lake!
The poor bike:(

Even I joined in!

Me and my girl!
Nice view!

Have a great summer everyone...we are just gearing up!

This was my first time using the Vertical Mold and I'm SOOO impressed!

I made up two different batches of soap.  I added Calendula Petals to one side along with Yuzu fragrance and the other side I added a little colorant along with Orange Fragrance.  This was also the first time I had used Rice Bran Oil.  I am TRULY pleased with how these turned out! They are gloriously gorgeous and the smell is DIVINE!!!

and here they are all cut up and gorgeous!

Ingredients Include: Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Shea Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Calendula Petals, Yuzu Fragrance Oil, Fizzy Lemonda Colorant, and Orange Essential Oil.

These will be ready to go in FOUR weeks!

Tea Tree Shampoo Bars

I made these previously and they really went over well! I put them in the baskets of the graduating guy Seniors and they even came up to me and told me how much they enjoyed them.

Tea Tree is an essential oil that has some healing aspects to it and for that I do have some people asking me for them...so I HAD to make them asap!

When I make these I do have to make sure that the lye and the oils are around 100 degrees...otherwise they can kinda break up and that is NOT pretty...this is the third time I've made them and I FINALLY pulled it off well.  They take a little over the full 24 hours to set up...its pretty soft when you cut it...then they cure for about four weeks!

I also have regular shampoo bars that are curing right now but I have had several requests for these!

This soap included the following ingredients: Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Castor Oil, Olive Oil, Sodium Hydroxide and Tea Tree Essential Oil.

Have a GREAT smelling day!

Chai Latte Tea Soap and Pink Sparkle Soap

A busy weekend for sure...but a good one! Painting projects continue, Father's Day was fun!

My husbands daughters with my Ellie and Trey
I made their favorite....Hot chicken Buffalo Sandwiches and homemade chocolate cake!

I also made two new soaps which I am thrilled with!

Introducing my new Pink Sparkle! It was a lengthy process of a color graduation where each layer was slightly darker than the top...I got a little carried away with the top color but I still think it turned out very well! The fragrance is Fresh Snow...smells quite yummy!

The ingredients in the soap include: Olive Oil, Coconut OIl, Palm Oil, Palm Kernel Flakes, Almond Oil, Mango Butter, Sodium Hydroxide, Magenta Labcolor fully diluted, and this time I did put a teeny tiny bit of a preservative to preserve the color I believe...Germaben II, Fine Iridescent Glitter, and Fresh Snow Fragrance.

I really enjoyed the process of making this soap...you had time between layers because you needed a thick trace. The fragrance worked really well with the soap and using a spatula for each layer helped with not breaking through all the way...of course being handmade soap there are a few imperfections but I am quite pleased with it!

The next soap was a favorite and one that I will make today because its such a very small batch when you make it...it is time consuming but I was able to make some Tea Tree Shampoo bars during the "wait process" which didn't make it FEEL as long AT all!

Chai Latte Love Soap....I absolutely adore all of its cuteness!  I used a Chai Tea Cybilla fragrance which smells absolutely DIVINE!

This is a two step process where you make the soap twice.  It involves cooling the second lye mixture in the fridge when you make the tops of the Chai Tea....I am going to make them again today because they are so adorable and I really think they will be a hit! It will be better to have eight "drinks" to have for people rather than just four.

The recipe includes the following ingredients:  Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Cocoa Butter, Castor Oil, Sodium Hydroxide, and I did use some Titanium Dioxide to make the tops whiter.  I did not put the fragrance in the tops because they will discolor...other than that...came out ADORABLE....I sprinkled cinnamon on tops of "cream"  I did have to use the stick blender for the tops for awhile to make them as "fluffy" as I could!

I think they are ADORABLE! That is my humble opinion though:)

Have a GREAT smelling DAY!

Remember the Ordinary Days

My E is back home and I'm thrilled.  My parents live over an hour away from me and I detest driving in traffic...can't wait till they sell their home.

My E got to ride her bike a lot (we live in the city and have an alley...grrr) She got to pick peas and raspberries, dig in sand like crazy and drive a tractor:)

Today, I sat outside and enjoyed the scenes that played out before me....wonderful day....of ordinary...but...how do you savor the ordinary????

Can your Grandpa play hopscotch with you?
Sidewalk chalk is the BEST!
AFter taking in these beautiful scenes...it took me almost two hours to get home due to they closed my exit and I had to take a detour....grrrr!

However, once I was home.....ahhhh....and my new vertical soap mold was waiting for me...all just in time for my painting/cleaning/making soap Saturday can take place!

Aren't you soo excited?!
Have a wonderful weekend! Can't wait to get my boy tomorrow....I miss him so:)
