What GREAT gifts?

I admit it...I'm a task maker...I have tried to put my list on my ipad and iphone and I have to tell you....it irks me...I check the item off and its gone....I like paper and post it notes and pens and books...I like to feel it, highlight it, look at it.  My cookbooks have oil etc all over them some have splotches but that means I really LIKE that one.  I like to look at my lists at the end of the day  and see the lines marked through the things I have accomplished:) Today was a sick day...started at 2am with my Ellie...then it became a coffee, pop kinda of day and I have basically only done laundry, dishes and checked my sons school work as he has gone through the day....today....nothing is going as it should....

I read blogs with thousands of followers, I Instagram and have no one like countless pictures while others have cartoons up about pointless things and have thousands of likes....my facebook soap page and blog are followed by a few but its a small miracle that anyone ever comments on anything....I sometimes wish I would just hit delete on all media...but seriously....how practical is that...we don't use telephones anymore...in fact I have one lady who is wanting me to help her in a ministry and we have played phone tag five times...I wanted to say to her hubby last night to just have her "facebook" me.  That way it could get DONE and over!

I still like to write thank you notes and receive an invitation.  I like dressing up and going to weddings where no one is in jeans?? (yep its true) I like to hear children say "yes maam and no maam"...ok I'm getting distracted....

I am not Ann Voskamp nor am I Beth Moore...

I have a lot to share and I've given my testimony and spoke to women before while they all sat there with glazed looks on their faces as I spoke...and to myself I wondered if there was a possibility that I spoke a foreign language??? I've helped in nursery for years at our church, worked in the clown ministry for seven years, I make soap, play piano, home school my kids, I run, I cook, I organize, I clean, I do and go and do and go...and here I am...stuck....

We sit at home with our computer screens....we check out the daily gossip on our Facebook, we check on our kids through Twitter and Instagram...I almost know more about kids before my kids come down to tell me about it....

I daresay that we as a generation have pretty much cheated ourselves from the simple act of human touch....we go to work and have more of a relationship with the people we work with than the ones that we go to church with or live with...we pull into our driveways, open the garage doors, go on and speak to no one...we eat dinner and talk with our families...turn on tv, or computer...and then off to bed to begin it all the next day...we don't have time to talk on phone...we have to have neat perfect house that no one comes to...

The reality is...we need human touch...we need to foster relationships...children need to know what it is like to carry on a conversation without saying "huh, or yeah, or DUDE" I seriously canNOT stand to hear that word DUDE!!! Makes me CRAZY!!!!

Lately, I have rekindled a friendship that I have missed for so long...and its so great to plan things with that friend every week...its been so great to be able to speak and not worry about how that "comes out".  I have missed her greatly....my hubby sometimes tells me that maybe I should look for friends that aren't like me....but I always laugh....because your friends ARE like you...that's why your friends....

So, here's to friends....and growing relationships in real life...and not judging your worth by pictures that get "liked" on Instagram or how many followers you have on Twitter or your blog or friends you have on Facebook....reach out to your friends...and ENJOY the difference of HUMAN touch!!!!!

Have a GREAT day!

The Show Me State

While I was growing up I said many times that I will NOT live in MO...I was planning on getting out of this state as FAST as possible...I dislike the winters, and the summers are so hot I want to just DIE...be careful what you say your NOT going to do!  Here I am...still in MO...and probably never leaving:(

Yesterday was a day that I did enjoy living here though...it was in the 70's if you can believe it...my dear E just loved it!

Of course this weather comes with a price...this morning around 2am my daughter woke coughing and such and needing to use the nebulizer....this afternoon finds her doing the same:(

We have now found out that the temps are dropping and woke up to rain..(of course I was up from 2am to 4am) and now we have heard that snow is coming around 9pm tonight and will continue to noon tomorrow:( which is good and bad...we need the moisture BADLY....if you can't tell that from the grass in the picture!

By the way, my dear dog decided that getting into our kitchen trash and spreading it all over the kitchen floor and leaving a special "surprise" on my kitchen rug was the BEST way to help me in my early morning "adventure." His special thanks will be a new kennel for night time:) GRRRRR!

Anyway, so here goes my caffeine self to salvage this day...and run some errands...I did however get some coffee soap and shampoo bars done the other day which was something I had tried to accomplish for sooo long! As always soap making is not always perfect and these bars turned out a bit differently than I had intended...but still....a nice bar of soap:)

Have a GREAT day!

Cheeseburger Soup

Sometimes on Pinterest I get epic fails...so when I actually have an recipe that works I like to share it...as you all know here in MO it has been FREEZING! Today its actually supposed to be around forty degrees which will be a HEAT WAVE and hopefully we will get some rain...which we DESPERATELY need.

I made this last night and my WHOLE family LOVED it! I doubled the recipe because I wanted leftovers etc for today:) I did NOT double the cheese...and it was cheesy enough I promise!

1 pound of ground beef
3/4 cup chopped onion
3/4 cup shredded carrots
3/4 cup diced celery
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp dried parley flakes
4 tbl butter
3 cups cicken broth
4 cups peeled and diced potatoes
1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 cups of velveeta processed cheese cubed
1 1/2 cups milk
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 to 1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 cup sour cream

1.  Brown the ground beef in 3 quart saucepan.  Drrain and set aside.
2.  In the same saucepan add 1 T butter and add onion, shredded carrots, parsley flakes, basil and celery.  Saute until tender
3.  Add the broth, potatoes and beef and bring to a boil.  Reduce heat, cover and simmer 10-12 or until vegetables and potatoes are tender.
4.  In small skillet melt remaining butter (3 T) and add the flour.  Cook and stiir for 3-5 minutes or until bubbly.  Add to the soup and bring to a boil.  Cook and stir for 2 minutes.  Reduce heat to low.
5.  Stir in the cheese, milk, salt and pepper.  Cook and stir until cheese melts.  Remove from heat and blend in sour cream ( I didn't do that) plenty yummy with out sour cream but you can if you want:)

Enjoy your weekend! We have a house showing today! I'm happy about that even though I'm missing my morning group run...which I'm very sad about:( I run so much better with people pushing me...because I'm a wimp...I freely admit it!

Miss Dot on the shelf

I'm at that place in life where it is so easy to get caught up in a million things.  The other day I started a list of all the things that I do...not a prideful thing...just wasn't figuring out why I wasn't getting all the things done that I needed done...

Being the WISE woman that I am (cough cough) I knew some things had to GO! Right now I'm in the season of life where there are a couple of things that MUST be done RIGHT now!

First and foremost comes my family...I have a middle school child and a kindergartener.  My kindergartener has issues with reading and speech which require more time than they did with my middle school child....he was reading at 5 with no problems at all.  I didn't even have to spend extra time going over words with him...he just got it.  Ellie was not so lucky...she mixes up her numbers, has difficulty with reading...but lately...lately I can tell you I can see the LIGHT...each day we are getting closer! The second thing is our store...our livlihood...I have to be involved, go on trips, decorate it, keep the employees happy with extra bonuses and customers the same...even though I'm not that everyday I still get all supplies and keep it looking lovely...right now its so stinking VALENTINEY I can harldy stand it...and yes that's a new word! The third thing is keeping up with our home...there's a reason we are trying to sell it...its to big and to much and I need some changes in that area...and last but not least...AHA HERE is the PROBLEM....myself:) I want to run a half marathon in three months and that is going to take some devotion....letting the house be dusty an extra hour while I run...so....after that it leaves me with time to help with Upward Cheerleading, and helping out with sunday school class...but ALAS....poor Miss Dot....me thinks she is going to have to set out for awhile....

I have had so many offers from churches, special groups etc for this ministry but alas I just can't seem to fit it in....I will still help once or twice a year at our church but these moments of Ellie are fleeing...my T has muscles and arms developing and he's becoming more manly by the day....so for now...Miss Dot is on the shelf...makes me sad...I like the big red nose....the pink hair....the fun bright clothes....but not to worry...she will return....and it will be GREAT:)

About seven years of clowning you see :) There are lots more pics I'm sure but I hated to bore you...after looking at these...it makes me wanna clown some more....maybe I can be convinced a few more times??? :)

Have a GREAT day!

Note: Since the writing of this piece I have had two offers for clowning ministries....SIGH!

Reading during lunch

As a homeschool Mom I wear lots of hats...and lately I have felt that I wasn't doing everything to the best of my ability...I wanted to ENJOY what I was doing...not just check the list!

So, just so you know my schedule it is as follows:

8am Trey begins school...he is old enough to get his online school going and he has teachers who teach his subjects.  I check the work as it is completed and correct as we go...if you don't check the work daily it will be to overwhelming to you and your student.

While he is working I get Ellie up and ready for the day and beds made, dishwasher, laundry etc done.

By 10 am I do school with Ellie and that is usually done by 11:30 we then do lunch and then I do more stuff around the house etc....but I really missed reading with her.  We would do our library books after school but I really wanted to spend some time with her....so I decided to do it...during lunch:)

While she eats...I read...and she LOVES it!

Our selection right now is the following:

You will be surprised how much they can really retain if we give them the chance!

Have a GREAT day!

Changing to a new label

My new labels along with some new soaps that I'm launching took off for their new home in Branson...Fly little soapys fly:)

I wanted a label that showed why I started making my own soaps...and the main reason is because of my dear E who has allergies and this is one way that I knew EXACTLY what went into the product!

I revamped some packaging on my Etsy shop for my detergent as well and I hope that that the buyer will approve...I personally think they are super cute:)

You can now get my detergent with either homemade lavender or homemade pearberry soap:)

I really need to make some more soap soon but each time I set aside a day to do so....it turns out to be a house showing day....plus now I have one in basketball and soon will have two...plus school....plus I'm training for a half...so life is a bit insane:(

Here is my new devotional book that is keeping my feet on the ground...I highly recommend it:)

Now I'm off to baking and cleaning and then strength training before our evening church activities:)

Have a GREAT day!

Zombies in Sunday School

For those of you who think I'm being over the top...that's fine....I'm asking....simply asking.

For the record I'm not a fan of Harry Potter...I have my reasons.  However, I do allow my son to play with Nerf guns and always have.  He also has an airsoft gun and we recently bought a bow an arrow.  My family has seen the shows Lord of the Rings, Hobbit and Hunger Games.  Some of you think that is over the top and I have reasons and convictions to tell you why we believe what we believe.

Any time people hear that I home school my children they instantly feel they need to tell me how much my children are missing out on.  If you have met my children you instantly realize that this is NOT a problem.  My E is doing just fine and her outside activities include dance, basketball and Awana as well as sunday school each week.  There are only two days that she is not around children her own age.  My son T is involved on a Chess team, choir, youthgroup, basketball and is an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader in scouts where this past weekend he was able to be a SPL and helped bring his troop to victory during the Klondike!  He is in NO way socially deprived....

So, we as a family do not watch TV.  We do have a tv and watch netflix...we do watch KCPT where Ellie can watch Wild Kratts etc.  she loves that show! I have no idea about the latest shows on tv EXCEPT for Downton Abby (just finished season 1) but the other sitcoms and such I have NO idea about!

So, yesterday in the sunday school class I teach ALL the little boys (who are in first and second grade) were chasing each other around the table (big surprise) but here was the shocker...they were all talking about ZOMBIES and the LIVING DEAD???? I was completely shocked...then they were walking around acting like it and then shooting each other???? I have no idea what they are talking about but asked them to please STOP as I and the other teacher just kind of stood there in stunned silence!  Now, just so you know I allowed my son to watch Spider Man and Batman and Star Wars and all that stuff....but I don't get Zombies or what in the world is the "Living Dead?"  For me this seems ways to close to the world's view but perhaps I need to be more educated about the show...I don't plan on watching it.  Perhaps I've witnessed to many deaths and funerals to find it in anyway interesting....I really don't know.  Perhaps I've been living under a rock and I need to get "with it".

I have no desire to make other parents feel guilty or feel that they have to defend themselves...and I'm not saying in anyway that these are bad children....I know how I felt when people would point to my son and tell me that he was going to turn into some bad person because I let him play with NERF GUNS! I said my peace to that mother...and went on my way:)  As far as parenting I don't have it all figured out and you can point to my children on any given day and find FAULTS....LOTS of FAULTS! Just like you can look at me and find FAULTS,,, LOTS of FAULTS! I'm just asking....do we as parents (and that means me as well) do we look at the content of what we watch and put it next to the Bible and judge the show by that...or do we just watch what we want...and then gloss over the parts in the Bible that we want to hear?

I admit there were two scenes in Downton Abby that I watched in series 1 that greatly convicted me...I don't really see the point in putting those scenes in?

This post is not to make any parent feel guilty....I just think we ALL as parents need to take a very good look at what we allow our children to watch...and ask ourselves the question that we were raised with "What Would Jesus Do?"

Have a GREAT day!

Chocolate Butter Cookies

Today was my hubby's day off and like many women I choose to bake that day as he enjoys it:)

I haven't made these in a long while but I have no idea why they are super easy! When I make these I double the recipe...but I have six people living here right now...and one of them is an ever growing 13 year old boy!!!!

1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 egg yolk
1 tsp almond extract
1 1/2 cups flour
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa

In large bowl, combine sugar, butter, egg yolk and almond extract.  Beat until light and fluffy.  Gradually add flour and cocoa until well mixed.  Shape and place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 degrees on ungreased cookie sheets for 7-9 minutes.

I rolled the dough into small balls and then smashed with a spoon as soon I got them out of the oven....feel free to do as you please:)

Today at CVS!

Before I head out for a day of shopping...and may I say that I no longer just "hit" the stores on my way home....its a very planned trip! So, I sat down at the computer today after I was done with school obligations and checked out krazycouponlady.com  She has a list for you of all the deals going on and in some cases and for those of you who are not so great at math...she even shows you the math...I love her:)

ANYWAY, one of the deals that she was talking about was NOT at my CVS :(((( but the other one was:)))))

So even I could do the math for this one! I had two coupons for a dollar off for two dove deoderants:) Making this price a lovely .24!!! YIPPPPEEEEEE!  I also saw several other deoderants on clearance that were cheaper than the sale price with my coupons so I decided to use a different strategy and bought the deoderants that were half the price of what the savings would be with my coupons:)

I also scored some pizzas that were on sale last week and got rainchecks for four...with my coupons that were buy two get one free I got six pizzas for a little over a three dollars:)))))

My other great score was the Glad Starter spray kit...on sale for $5 plus I had $2 coupons on each one...I got three:) plus rewards cash was made on that purchase as well:)

So, all in all I saved $127 today on my purchases which consisted of Listerine large size $2 Era detergent for $3 and several deoderants.  I also bought my E kids shampoo for a little over a dollar each plus that figured back into my reward dollars:) I got Glade plug ins for a song since they were on sale as well and I had extra coupons for that as well.  Large size of Jergens were $3 each after coupons....soooo it was a GOOD day! The total price started out at $150 and we got it down to $67 with $16 in reward bucks:))))

My Berries Jubilee soap turned out glorious and I'm soo pleased with it!!!

I so wish you could smell it! It smells glorious!!! Probably my new fav! Hope we like the cranberry seeds!

Have a GREAT rest of your day!!! Off to Target and Kohls :)

Target Deals Right NOw

Last night we had a showing of our home...number 5 to be exact...with only one hours notice!!! That was not my happy place lets just say...I was running around like a CRAZY! Thankfully somedays I get these weird feelings that we are going to have a showing (I have no idea why) and I had straightened the basement and vacuumed the floors with my new baby:) I love it soooo much!

Seriously...if you have one you know what I MEAN TOTALLY!!!!!

However, my bathrooms weren't sparkly and my kitchen sink wasn't as white as can be...so I was rather sad about that...anyway, we shall wait and then wait and wait some more:)

So, since we couldn't be at home I ran some errands that I had to do but usually wait until another day to do it!

First up was Target!

1. Great deals on scarves right now and gloves...some of them are 70 percent off and all are 50 percent off...great deal to stock up on especially if you have stepdaughters like me that LOSE THEIRS all the time!!!! GRRR!
2. Buy three cereals get one free....plus there are SCADS of coupons to be had to double with this offer! By the time I was done with coupons my cereals were a little over a dollar each:)
3. Surf detergent marked down to $8 a piece and free $5 gift card with purchase of two.  After coupons that came out to be $5 a piece for two large things of detergent:)

Wednesday will find me at CVS where there are lots of deals to be had:)

By the way our dear Mr. Blueberry Fish passed yesterday so we had to say goodbye...won't go into the drama of that! However, we have a new Miss Finny fish and she's settling in well:)

Have a GREAT day everyone!
